A Very Busy, but WAY Exciting 4th of July Week!!

The week of the 4th of July was so much fun! I don't think I've even done so much without a baby, and we decide to embark on a huge adventure with Leyna only being 5 1/2 weeks old. I know we're crazy, but we had a blast, and Leyna was REALLY good for the most part. So it all started on Sunday when I talked to our friends Brooke and Josh, who were coming to visit Cali from Texas. They were coming to stay with us for the week, but were gonna make a couple other stops in Cali first. They were going to the Sequoias and San Fransisco and invited us to come along. So we decided to intrude on there trip. =) Thanks guys it was a lot of fun!

Monday

So Monday morning we took Leyna to her one month check up, and everything went good. She is now 9lbs. 2oz. and 22 inches tall. I can't believe how much she has grown! The other day I was watching A Baby Story and seeing those little newborns made me realize how much she has grown, and as crazy as it sounds, it made me want to have another one. We're gonna wait probably about 2 years though. Then as soon as we were done with the Dr. visit we finished packing and took off driving to the Sequoias. We thought it was about a 2 hour drive, but as we were driving Brooke and Josh call to let us know it was at least 3 hours cus the last part is really winedy. It was so pretty up there. So we got there around 5 or 6pm and we unloaded the stuff into the room and then went and had dinner at the restaurant at the lodge. We were not expecting it to be so nice and SO expensive, but we couldn't just get up and leave, besides there wasn't anywhere else to really eat anyways. Juan decided to be adventurous and ordered KANGAROO. I didn't even know they served Kangaroo anywhere. We all tasted it, and it was kinda weird. But at least now we can all say we've tried kangaroo. =)

Aren't they both so cute with her?

TUESDAY

Tuesday morning we tried to get up and out kinda early to go see everything. We were planning on driving to San Fran that day too. So we headed out and we got to see a lot! It was such a beautiful day! We saw General Marshal which is one the biggest Sequoias.

There is so much to see and do at the Sequoias. I would recommend everyone go.

W e drove under/through a tree (we all thought it was a tree standing upright, so were a little disappointed when it was laying on it's side, but we still took pics.

Then we went to Moro Rock and we climbed all the way to the top. It was so freakin scary. Brooke and I were freaking out the whole way. It was so high and steep on the sides and in some areas there wasn't a railing or anything on the sides. The guys just went like it was nothing. Doesn't that look high, and not is nothing. Just when you think you are done there is another two sets of stairs. It was a work out!Juan got to carry Leyna up. I wasn't about to.

But we made it to the top! It was such a pretty view up there.

That's what we were on top of!

Then we had a picnic and saw two female deer almost get in a fight. It was crazy and unexpected. After we ate we headed off to San Fransisco. It was supposed to be a 4 1/2 hour trip, but it took us almost 6 hours because we had to stop to feed Leyna and stuff. But we finally made it and it was crazy there. When we checked into the hotel they said they didn't have any parking and we had to park somewhere else which would cost us $20 per car and we had two cars between the four of us.

WEDNESDAY

That morning we got up and out early again headed to Fisherman's Wharf. Brooke had this great idea to park at Pier 39 parking garage and so we did not even thinking to look at how much it costs. So we went about our day. We walked around Pier 39 which has a bunch of stores.

Then we saw Alcatraz Island.

It was so cold there so Leyna stayed in her stroller swaddled up and covered.
It turned out everything cost so much to do. We were so bummed, but it turned out that we had more fun at the things that didn't cost much or didn't cost at all. We found a building that had all these old games so we hung out there and did that for a while. Here's a game that is supposed to "shock" you. The guys played it and then us girls did it. Our reactions are completely opposite. The guys were all cool, and Brooke and I were screaming. Everyone was starring at us. I'll have to post the videos of it as soon as I can figure out how to. They are so funny.
Between eating and playing we were there for almost 5 hours. When we left the parking garage we finally saw how much it costs. We paid $35!!! Holy cow! So we left there and went to the Golden Gate Bridge. That was a lot of fun and it didn't cost a thing, thank goodness! It was so windy out there so Leyna got to be out for pics before we walked the bridge and then she went back in her stroller all bundled up and covered. After walking the bridge we headed home.

On our way home we stopped at the Oakland Temple. It is so Pretty! The view was beautiful!

THURSDAY

We caught up on our sleep and then that night we went out to Shafter to a free firework show. We chowed down on pizza and Donuts and then watched the show.

Leyna did really good. she didn't even want me to cover her ears.

FRIDAY

Happy 4th of July!!!
We just chilled and relaxed. We went out to my parents house. Here we are in our 4th of July outfits.

Brooke and Josh bought matching outfits that day. Josh was so mad that we made him wear matching shirts. Don't they look so cute though?

We went swimming, bbqed, and lit fireworks.

Josh had all the fireworks set up and gave us a "spectacular" show. =)

My goofy Husband

SATURDAY

Some friends of ours just had a baby and came by so we could see him. He weighed 8lbs 4oz when he was born. In this pic he is a week old. Can you believe Leyna was even smaller than him when she was born? I can't believe how much she has grown. We went to John's Incredible Pizza. We stuffed our faces and then played lots of games, did the bumper cars, and then stuffed our faces more. =) Then we went to Target and bought Leyna some adorable outfits.

After that we went to this race car place with really fast cars. Brooke and I don't really enjoy it (probably cus we're no good) so just Juan and Josh did it.

SUNDAY
Leyna's Blessing!

The blessing was beautiful, and we my family, some of Juan's family, and some friends were able to be there to share this wonderful thing with us. Leyna looked so pretty in her dress. Apparently she didn't want to stay in her dress that long because as soon as her blessing was over she decided to do a massive poopie and it exploded out all over her dress and on Juan's sisiter Isabel. She has NEVER exploded out of her diaper before. Why when she had on an all white dress?!? I'm so bummed I didn't get a pic of the mess. I didn't think about it till after Isabel was washing it.

Luckily it was hot outside and the material of the dress dries fast. I left the dress in the car for the rest of church and it was pretty much dry so we still got to take pictures. Yay! I was so sad when I didn't think we would get any pics of her in it that day.

Monday morning Brooke and Josh left. Thank you so much guys for coming to visit and being part of the blessing. Wish you guys still lived here. It was a lot of fun having you here. We miss you guys! Leyna was sad you guys were leaving too. =)

um, i'm tired just hearing about it all :). but now is the time to get those trips in because once leyna gets older they get harder-- right now she can just sleep in her carseat and stroller all day. once she's older you'll have to schedule everything around her naps and stop to let her stretch etc.

when are you guys coming here? i NEED to see you!

Tks for sharing. That was fun to read about. You two are very brave. Dan and I don't go anywhere with our newborns. Too much work. I guess we're just lazy. Looks like you had fun. I love the pic of Leyna on the 4th of July with her gigantic smile. How sweet.
I bet you were exhausted after and took the next week to recoup. :)

You are very brave. When Alaura was 5 weeks old i was still sleeping alot!!!! Ofcourse Eric was working a million hrs a week and I felt like a single parent, but even so I still probably wouldn't have done all that. I'm happy you're doing so well though. You got some really good pics!!
